Along with composing, performing and teaching, Frank Horvat is proud to be active and affiliated within a number of community associations:
Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association: a not-for-profit professional organization of Registered Music Teachers from across Ontario. ORMTA’s mission is to encourage and provide the highest calibre of music education possible and promote high standards of music.
Frank is a Representative of the Greater Toronto Area on the Provincial Council. He is also a former president of the Central Toronto Branch.
Karen Kain School of the Arts Musical Mentors Program: Based out of the arts-focused middle school in the Toronto District School Board, Musical Mentors is a weekly after-school program that allows students to perform in instrumental ensembles while getting mentored on their instrument by high school music student volunteers.
Frank is the Musical Director, composing, arranging, conducting and coordinating students and volunteers.
Lakeshore Arts: a community arts council that provides free and accessible programming to local youth, mentoring and career opportunities for youth, employment for local artists, as well as networking and advocacy services and supports the revitalization of South Etobicoke making it THE place to live, work, shop and play.
Frank is a member of the Board of Directors, including the Programming Committee.
Alliance of Canadian New Music Projects: fosters and promotes the study and performance of contemporary Canadian music through a number of music education programs, including Contemporary Showcase - held every November during Canada Music Week.
Frank is a member of the ACNMP, regularly volunteering and adjudicating at Contemporary Showcase. He also served on the National Board of Directors from 2005-09.
Canadian Cancer Society: a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
Once a week, Frank volunteers to drive cancer patients to their appointments and treatments.
Regent Park School of Music: one of Toronto’s foremost independent non-profit community music schools with a mandate to provide a safe and secure environment where inner-city young people can participate in an affordable after-school music program.
Frank was one of the first teachers
at Regent Park School of Music from its inception in 1999. In
2005, Frank organized and performed in a fundraising concert for
the school.
World Wildlife Fund – Canada: one of the country's leading conservation organizations, the WWF strives to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
Frank is a regular supporter of the WWF, including volunteering at the Annual CN Tower Climb.
Bruce Trail Conservancy: committed to establishing a conservation corridor containing a public footpath along the Niagara Escarpment, in order to protect its natural ecosystems and to promote environmentally responsible public access to this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Frank is a member and regular hiker of the Bruce Trail.
