4 Albums, 1 Year – Update!
Categories: Making Music
Things are starting to heat up – not just the weather, but in my creative life too. I’ve already shared some info about the start of my intense recording year coming up. It’s strange and fun how the opportunity to record all 4 of these separate albums of my compositions came about seemingly all at once. Each album is at a different stage of development. So from time to time, I’ll use my blog to update you on where we’re at…
Album #1: Me to We – chamber music
The recording session on May 12 went very well. It’s a bit of a concept album – the 3 tracks take us on the journey of someone being alone to finding and being with their true love. We edited and started mixing at Canterbury last week. So easy to work with Julian, the engineer. We started mixing the first 2 tracks and it sounded awesome…very heartfelt and expressive coming from such quality musicians. We’ll resume mixing later this month. Hope to release this next February.
Album #2: The Current Agenda – chamber music and electronics
The sessions to record these 6 activist compositions are set for September. Lisa is shopping the album concept to a label and then maybe to a significant TV show if they might collaborate on a special release event in the new year. I’ve listened to my MIDI demos of the 6 pieces and I’m floored. As a composer, you always think that your music could shake the foundation of the musical world. Well, this album just might.
Album #3: You Haven’t Been – solo piano
I haven’t released a recording of my piano compositions in a while. On June 5, we celebrated the 9th anniversary of my first, I’ll Be Good. So we’re aiming to release this one next June 5th on the 10th anniversary. You Haven’t Been won’t sound anything like that though. It’s going to be more ambient and romantic. I’ve composed all the pieces, now I have to finish making the scores (boring) and start practicing. Hope to go into the studio in late September for this one.
Album #4: Love in 6 Stages – pop songs with piano and electronics
This one is going to take the listener through the emotional ringer. I’ve already started writing this one and hope to finish it up next month. I’m envisioning some dream pop, like my band recordings, except a lot more pared down. I still don’t know who will sing this one (probably female) and who I’ll work with on it (producer). That being said, I’m hoping we get recording in November.
Anyway, it’s never boring in my life! Looking forward to all the work this year and then sharing with the world!
