The Year’s Half Done – What Have I Accomplished?

The simple answer is a lot! I have composed over 50 compositions since January 1st. My main focus these past 6 months has been to build up my portfolio of compositions for Lisa to shop around for Film and TV placement. I complete 1, 2 or even 3 of these in a day using all the electronic tools available to me. Some are also the result of collaborations with other fine musicians.

Other than the film and TV music, there’s also been the completion and overseeing of performances for my clarinet concerto (youtube video), working on a musical and providing music for an art film, among other things.

In my daily writing routine, I often think that the wheels of moving this music career forward is very slow. Trying to balance my other life responsibilities, I often wonder if all this writing is going to pay off. Well, after preparing this blog post and counting all these compositions, I realize that this is an immense body of work that I should feel proud of. When you’re in the day-to-day of it all though, it’s hard to get excited or celebrate any of it since it is simply the everyday. It’s the way “I go to the office” or go to work so there’s nothing to celebrate.

Well, this blog post has made me realize that the everyday is worth celebrating. I look forward to the end of the year to look back and see what I was able to produce after 365 “every-days”.

Thank you all for your support…that helps too;)!
