2016-17 – for female voice and piano – 10:00
Music by Frank Horvat
Words by Frank Horvat & Lisa Horvat
I composed Void to be the last song on my concept album, Love in 6 Stages. Each song on this album is 10 minutes in length. And while it has a pop sensibility, my inspiration probably came from classical and ambient traditions.
Void is barren both vocally and pianistically. Up until this song, Love in 6 Stages was pulsating and defined with it’s beat. I wanted the last song to be the complete opposite rhythmically to capture the despair our protagonist feels.

Yes, I’m alone now
Like a barren horizon on a cloudy day
Not sure how I’ll allow
Nothing but dismay
It’s been weeks
They say time heals all wounds
Delusion, an illusion
I yearn for that bliss
Can it happen again? No.
Please, emptiness go away
Trade places with laughs and purrs
I feel hollow and alone
Like a stray cat in rain, with burrs
How can I ever move on? Never.
Don’t invite me to your parties
No more first looks allowed
Don’t feel like you need to include me
Alone is what I savour
Is solitude my destiny? Yes.
So that’s it, completely alone
I will love no more
Say goodbye to desires and liars
For those require passion and pain
All which I’ve traded for this void.
