My Desert Island Playlist

My desert island playlist

Without fail there are certain songs that hit me in that special place every time I hear them. They always make me stop in my tracks, leaving me in awe and with the inspiration to carry on. To be able to create music that inspires so profoundly is truly special.

I feel fortunate that I’ve had the chance to touch someone in that way at least just once. I got a note about six months ago from a woman I met on tour in Kelowna. She’s a wonderful woman – a life-long poet and free spirit. The morning she wrote the note she was about to go into the hospital for an operation. She took my CD, A Little Dark Music, off her shelf and listened to it before leaving home.

“I took out your CD and sat down to listen, as I have done many times before. However, this morning, perhaps because of what the day holds for me, I listened with all my heart and soul. I felt as if I entered into another sphere of being – another reality – where I was no longer my humdrum self, but part of the music.”

I can’t express into words what this means to me. There is nothing better in the world than being able to make that kind of difference to someone as I know my life is better for the great music that has filled it like Tori Amos’ ‘I Can’t See New York’, Live’s ‘Lighting Crashes’, Santana’s ‘Samba Pa Ti’ and so much more.

This got me thinking about what my grown-up version of a desert island playlist would be. Click here to see what’s currently on my list. What’s on yours? Please let me know in the comments below…
