Frank Horvat is one of the most inventive song writers to come out of the contemporary scene in Canada. ...duos appear to tear through the composer's innards not simply to discover his heart, but to gather its myriad pieces and bind them back together again. Horvat's work is exquisitely eventful and almost insidiously

Toronto pianist [and composer] Frank Horvat likes to do things his way, not anyone else's. He ignores genre boundaries and isn’t afraid to mix politics with art.

Thank you Apt613 for featuring my collaboration with SHHH Ensemble!!How do you describe the Holocene, Earth’s current epoch, defined partially by humanity’s impact on the planet? If you a SHHH Ensemble, a hardworking, big-minded percussion-and-piano duo, it involves 20 instruments, 150 audio samples, a 120-page score, equal commitment to music and activism, and an hour-long album: An Auditory Survey of the Last Days of the Holocene. 🎶![]()
SHHH!! Ensemble’s two members, Edana Higham and Zac Pulak, met at the University of Ottawa and started their duo in 2017. In our blog, we got the chance to speak with SHHH!! Ensemble to learn more about their process, their sound, and their inspiration. ![]()
To hear what Pulak and Higham have called “a radical catalogue of our created world’s sounds,” you can catch a special presentation of the album at the winter edition of Pique on December 9. The album will be played over a surround-sound speaker 🔊 array in a 100-person auditorium.![]()
The Last Days of the Holocene, composed by Frank Horvat Music and performed by SHHH!! Ensemble, is available for streaming on all platforms and can also be found in our blog:
