Programme Notes

I Wait For You is a heartfelt composition inspired by the deep yearning of a person longing to find someone with whom they can share their life. The work embodies the singular, all-consuming thought of this desire, which fills their mind and heart. Despite a profound emptiness within, there is an unwavering optimism that, someday soon, the right person will arrive to fill that void.

The piece calls for a performance that is rich in romantic expressiveness. The delicate interplay between the violin and cello, marked by “molto espressivo,” serves as the emotional core of the work, capturing the protagonist’s melancholic longing, yet hopeful anticipation.

Originally composed for soprano, cello, and piano, I Wait For You found its true voice after a challenge in integrating the main melody with lyrics. After struggling to make the vocal part work, the soprano was replaced with a violin, and thus the piece transformed into its current form—where the violin’s lyrical lines now soar in place of the human voice, conveying a deeply emotional narrative of love, hope, and longing.
