Memories of Self-Isolation - Vancouver Bach Choir

New Choir Commission

Very happy to announce that I have been commissioned by the Vancouver Bach Choir to compose a cantata for vocal soloists, chorus and chamber ensemble. This will be a sequel to Music for Self-Isolation. Called Memories of Self-Isolation, this new work will explore perspectives and challenges faced by a cross-section of society as a result of living through the COVID pandemic.

You are invited to be part of the creative process! Submit poetry or lyrics that you wrote during the pandemic on themes around self-isolation and your hopes for the future. A panel will review all the submissions and decide which ones I’ll set to music. Authors whose work is selected to be part of the new cantata will be provided with an honorarium and an invitation to the world premiere performance on November 12, 2022 in Vancouver.

Memories of Self-Isolation will look back at the hardship and challenges that our world has faced these last few years but will also provide hope for the future. It’s going to be wonderful to have this large communal gathering of musicians explore important themes around healing that we need to undertake in order to move forward.

Many thanks to Leslie Dala, Gillian Hunter-Gibbs and the entire VBC team for bestowing upon me this amazing opportunity. ❤️ I can’t wait to compose this new work! 😁
