Woodhaven Eco REsidency

I’m honoured to have been invited as an artist-in-residence at the Woodhaven Eco Culture Centre in Kelowna, BC this July. Nestled within the stunning landscape of Canada’s portion of the Columbia Mountain range, this beautiful site is hosted by the Okanagan Campus of the University of British Columbia.

This won’t be my first time in Kelowna. I first visited in 2010 while on my Green Keys Tour, where I performed my solo piano work Earth Hour entirely in the dark. It feels especially meaningful to return and revisit that piece during this residency—this time performed outdoors, under a summer night sky, surrounded by towering trees and stars.

During my time at Woodhaven, I’ll also begin composing Earth Hour 3. I seem to have fallen into a rhythm of writing a new Earth Hour every ten years, and I find something exciting in imagining where my musical voice will be four years from now as I continue to reflect on environmental themes through sound. To create this work in such an inspiring natural setting feels particularly special.
