Christmas is How Soon???

My Swollen TDL for the rest of 2016

Earlier this week, I took a moment to cross reference my things-to-do-list with my calendar and I was shocked and a bit scared. Here’s my list of what I need to get done by the end of the year…

  • Compose an album of tense, asian-inspired, Film/TV music for a music library in Australia.
  • Compose a new work for soprano, clarinet and piano to be premiered at the November 9th Westwood Concert.
  • Finish composing the songs for my upcoming electro-pop album project, Love in 6 Stages (and hopefully record it too by the end of November).
  • Write more songs for the musical, SKI Club. We want to get some songs from this show recorded, again by the end of the calendar year.
  • Continue with post-production on my two upcoming chamber albums, Me to We and The Current Agenda.
  • Record and edit the 13 pieces for my upcoming solo piano album, You Haven’t Been. First session has been booked for Oct 10.
  • Go to LA in October for 5 days to attend the PMA Conference.
  • Go to LA again in November for 5 days to attend the Taxi Music Road Rally.
  • Compose Film/TV cues as requested by music libraries and publishers that I work with.
  • Teach my piano and theory students on the weekends.
  • Adjudicate a scholarship competition for the Rotary Club of Burlington and Toronto’s Contemporary Showcase Festival.
  • Present a workshop to music teachers in Kitchener-Waterloo.

This is only my list. Lisa’s list to support all this plus work ahead to 2017 is WAY bigger.

As an artist, the other thing that I’ve figured out over the years is that everything can change in a heartbeat. One phone call, text or email and all of a sudden this entire list above has to be dropped like a hat to focus on something else out of the blue. Me being a compulsive planner, I used to hate this. But I’ve come to accept change or delay to a well-laid out plan…in fact I’m trying to embrace it as something exciting!

This insanity aside, Lisa and I continue to be focussed on pacing ourselves and enjoying the journey. We give ourselves plenty of rest time, meet up with friends and family, eat well, go for our twice-per-day walks and we’re even about to start an online meditation class.

I know it’s a bit of a push to do all this but Lisa and I plan to do NOTHING in between Christmas and New Years. I know we’ll survive and have fun at the same time!
