Programme Notes
I grew up in a spirited, hot-blooded Hungarian family where dinnertime was about much more than just food. Conversations around the table could easily evolve into heated arguments, heartfelt pleas, or poignant moments of sharing fears and doubts—and that was all before dessert!
This composition is heavily influenced by the rich Hungarian folk music tradition, particularly its use of modes and driving rhythms, often emphasizing the off-beats. The cello, with its incredibly diverse range of timbres and moods, proved to be the perfect instrument for exploring a wide spectrum of emotions within a single solo piece.
