Just Keep Walking

It’s not just the title of a song by INXS, but a way of life for me! I’ve always been a walker, starting my day with a 4.5km stroll along the Toronto waterfront. But recently I learned it was not enough. Health experts always promote that one must take 10,000 steps each day to maintain optimum health. That translates to approximately a little over 8km each day. YIKES, that’s a lot of steps and a lot of time! The morning walk is already 45 minutes, now if I add a second walk later in the afternoon that’s a little under 45 minutes? How was I to fit this into my schedule?

The simple answer is I just did. Despite a busy work schedule with umpteen projects and other responsibilities, I realized that I had no option but to do what a giant multinational sneaker company always tells us to do! A few months ago, I basically came to peace with the concept that I can’t work like crazy person anymore. That means regardless what I’m working on or what deadlines I have, I have to do those 2 daily walks and stop working at 7pm (it used to be 8:30pm). As my dad (a retired civil servant) always tells me, what you don’t finish today, you’ll finish tomorrow. And he’s right. My plan is to be a creative musical entity until the day I die. I’m in this for the long haul. I have an unlimited amount of projects I can work on. So as long as I do make the most of the finite hours I have available to me daily, I will have a better chance of maintaining balance while being the most productive person I can be.

BTW, this blog post should have been done last week, but I was too busy walking:)!

Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.
