Living Through Political Turmoil

As a Canadian, the news of the last couple of weeks has been most unsettling. With all due respect to the POTUS, I live by Lake Ontario, not Lake America!

I find myself increasingly worried about what the political turmoil surrounding Donald Trump will mean for our world in the long term.

Beyond individual policies or political disagreements, what concerns me most is the deeper impact: the erosion of trust, increasing polarization, hostility toward difference, and the normalization of uncertainty and division. When political leaders and institutions become sources of constant conflict, it can leave people feeling exhausted, angry and powerless.

I don’t pretend to know where all of this is heading. History rarely follows a predictable path. But I do believe that the values we choose to protect during difficult times matter enormously.

Compassion matters. Truth matters. Democracy matters. Listening to people with whom we disagree matters.

Perhaps our greatest responsibility right now is not to become consumed by the turmoil, but to continue creating spaces for dialogue, creativity, empathy and hope.

The future is still being written—and we all have a part in writing it. We shall never let the tyrants win!
