The Joy of Teaching

Today is my final day teaching piano for this school year. That feels more poignant than past years as I have spent most of 20-21 only being able to see my students online. We all survived thanks to technology. But, also thanks to our collective enjoyment of music. I can’t remember a past time where I’ve seen all my students convey such a pure joy for playing music. I quickly realized that music became their sanctuary during the pandemic.

I feel so honoured and privileged that I had a little part of their journey in that way. And meanwhile, I am so grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to share wisdom and inspiration. I feel that the greatest gift one can give to humanity is to teach. In return, my students don’t just give me income, but they keep me grounded and give me balance.

For the first time in my professional life, I will go an entire summer without teaching. I will miss seeing my students but I’m also looking forward to having a break…to rest, rejuvenate, dedicate more time to creative projects and most importantly take time to learn more myself so I can pass on more to my students come the fall.

Happy Summer! 🌞
