This is Where I Spend Most of My Day

Home is where the heart is???…For me it’s “Home is where the Work is”!

When my wife and I moved into our new condo last month, the absolute first priority was to unpack and setup our new office. The condo has 2 bedrooms and the 2nd bedroom is what we use as an office.

It’s a pretty plain room, not that big but not too small either to make you feel like you’re in a sardine can. Thanks to the miracle of technology, I don’t need so much equipment like I used to…only a keyboard, speakers, mixer and laptop, and poof, I’m ready to make music! That being said, I’ve been in the music game for a quite a while so the accumulation of “stuff” was quite intense. We had a major purge before we moved. Although, the closet space in the new office is definitely being completely used up, mostly to store my CDs (can you say ‘Emergency CD Sale’!). I miss not having a real piano in my workspace, but my new piano is only a stone’s throw away at my teaching studio at Lakeshore Arts.

Meanwhile, I can do quick recordings right here in the room if needed (yes, moving blankets are the poor man’s soundproofing god-send!). And I really like the brightness and natural light emanating in the room from the big windows. If you spend all day in a room, it must have natural life in order to save yourself from going batty! I like that there’s plenty of wall space to hang heirlooms of past career achievements – a good motivator for future endeavours. And most of all, I love that my Love is in the same room with me all through the day. In this crazy music biz, nothing seems scary, daunting or impossible with her by my side.
