This personal craziness of producing 4 albums of my own works by the end of this year continues! Since my update, things are slowly starting to progress…
Album #1: Me to We – chamber music
This is a bit of a concept album – the 3 tracks take us on the journey of someone being alone to finding and being with their true love. The recording session took place in May and I just finished editing and mixing with Julian at Canterbury a couple of weeks ago. A couple of tweaks needed but otherwise this is ready to be mastered (hopefully later this summer). Hope to release this next February. Now that we have some mixes, Lisa is going to approach a certain Toronto radio station to see if they might want to collaborate on an album release concert. I shared the mixes with the musicians who played on the album. Only two replies for one of the pieces and they liked it. Am I to assume that non-replies from the other musicians means they don’t like it? (nervous:)).
Album #2: The Current Agenda – chamber music and electronics
The sessions to record these 6 activist compositions are set for September. We’re waiting to hear back from a prominent Canadian classical album label if they’ll release it (fingers crossed). Once we hear back, Lisa plans on approaching a significant TV show if they might collaborate on a special release event in the new year. Meanwhile the logistics of organizing rehearsals and recording sessions for 9 musicians and 2 studios is complete!
Album #3: You Haven’t Been – solo piano
You Haven’t Been is going to feature the more romantic and ambient nature of my piano writing. I’m going to record these 13 pieces myself, hopefully in late September. I’ve started practicing the first 5 and they fit under the fingers very nicely. Meanwhile, I’m not finished making all the scores…can someone give me more hours in the day please? Lisa is going to explore some sponsorship opportunities for the album and subsequent tour…any ideas?
Album #4: Love in 6 Stages – pop songs with piano and electronics
I FINALLY go back to writing this album this month. I really need to be done by the end of the month. I started writing some of the songs over a year ago but put it aside. I might just start over. I still don’t know who will sing this one (probably female) and who I’ll work with on it (producer). That being said, I’m hoping we get recording in October/November.
Let’s just say Lisa and I have a lot of things-to-do lists lying around:)! It is exciting though and I feel very fortunate to have this unique opportunity. More updates next month, if not sooner.
