On two recent Saturdays, I enjoyed spending time with my friend, Kathryn Ladano, recording my composition, Anatomy of the Recovering ...
I’m gonna record how many albums this year!?
Categories: Making Music
If only you could have heard me a year ago. I was lamenting, yearning to get back into the recording studio to record all this music I’ve written that’s been piling up on my computer, unheard.
Now, here I am, 12 months later and I’m preparing to record 4 new albums!! Wow, what a difference a year makes. I don’t quite know how I’ll pay for all the studio and musician time yet but the 4 grants from FACTOR & OAC are helping and more than anything, they helped me make the decision to jump into it and do these no matter what!
The next 12 months will be wonderful and scary and wonderful and crazy and…, filled with rehearsals, recording sessions, editing, mixing, mastering, artwork, liner notes, duplication, launches, parties, concerts, promo, interviews, and stuff I can’t even imagine yet. In the past 10 years I’ve been lucky to release 4 albums. In 2017, I’ll be doubling that with these 4. My mind is slightly exploding right now.
I can’t wait to share more details with you. All these new albums already have titles and stories and music… So much to say! So, I’ll begin at the top…
Album #1: Me to We
This album will have just 3 pieces but it is very dear to my heart. The concept came about because of a piece I wrote many moons ago as a Christmas present to Lisa. It’s a piano duet – “Piano Piece No.4 – For Me & You“. At the time I was teaching her how to play piano and I wanted to get her a non-commercial, environmentally friendly Christmas gift. What better than a piano piece we could play together? Well, that was the initial concept.
Let’s just say that my emotions got out of hand and I ended up writing a piece that even I find challenging to play. Although we realize we will never play it together, for this album we enlisted the wonderfully talented husband and wife piano duo – The Millar Duo. They recorded it for us last week. It was so fun to have them in the studio (they are so cute when they work together). They may just be the only piano duo out there who could have pulled this off so beautifully!
Also last week at Canterbury Studios we recorded the other two pieces for this album. These are brand new classical chamber music compositions and help round out the album’s theme of going from being alone to being loved. Check out my Facebook page for the amazing musicians I worked with to bring these pieces alive. These folks truly made the music sing.
Stay tuned and subscribe to my blog (top right corner) to get a sneak peak into the other 3 albums and get more details and perhaps an audible sneak peak of Me to We.
Believe it or not, the release of four albums next year is a conservative number. I’ve been composing so much music in the past number of years that I have enough music and initial ideas for at least twelve other albums at this point. Sigh, so little time, so little $$! But we’ll see how these four go, and who knows, I might squeeze out another 1 or 2 this year:)!
