Back in June of this year, I started this monthly blog series sharing the progress of my efforts to compose, produce and fund 4 different albums of my compositions, all simultaneously, in the short time span of a year. After much thought, I’ve decided to make this the last post in this series, for 3 reasons…
1. Earlier this week, the edit and mix for The Current Agenda (3rd of 4 albums) was completed. From a music standpoint, I only have the final album, Love in 6 Stages, left to complete. Back in June, I wanted all 4 albums to be complete by the end of the year. That’s not going to happen, but that’s okay. I want Love in 6 Stages to be the best album possible, so I’m not going to rush my creative process to make that happen.
2. I just completed a crowdfunding campaign that will help offset some of the expenses in bringing these 4 albums to life. Thanks to the generosity of many of my fans, supporters and granting agencies like Factor and the Ontario Arts Council, Lisa and I now have some more breathing room with our financing of these projects.
3. It’s the end of the year. And even though one album’s not done yet and Lisa has to still shop them all to labels starting in January, they’ll all be released in some form or another in 2017. It still feels symbolic to end it here and start fresh in the new year. Call me sentimental or weird, but I guess I’m just wired that way:)!
Now that’s not to say that I won’t be using my future blog posts to talk about these albums – most definitely I will! But it will be more about the individual album. They are so different than each other, it really makes sense to share what’s happening (and the toll it’s taking on me:)) in that way.
In this final “4 albums – 1 year” post, it’s fitting that I thank all the talented and dedicated people that made this fabulous musical and professional experience a reality: Jeremy Darby and Julian DeCorte at the Canterbury Music Company, Jean Martin, Marc DeCorte, Jamie Thompson, Gregory Millar, Edwin Huizinga, Erika Nielsen, Lisa Raposa, Michael Westwood, Daniel Morphy, Kathryn Ladano, Lisa Tahara, Christopher Lee and Samantha Chang.
Without these talented folks, my many generous patrons, and of course my wife and manager, Lisa, none of this would be possible. So as I close this chapter of this wonderful project and to the year 2016, please stay tuned for the next phase of bringing 4 albums to life in 2017 – it’s going to be a wild and bumpy ride!
