My two-week creation residency at Museo Novecento, in Florence, Italy is coming to a close. Composing the sound installation, The Book of the Time-Travellers of the Worlds – a Fathomless Zero – Chapter 2, here, in the same space where the public can now experience my collaboration with artist Parul Thacker, has been incredibly rewarding.
In the first video blog, you’ll see how I started my time here with excitement, but also a touch of nervousness…
By the start of week two, the pressure to finish the composition had started to build. I talk about how and why the intensity of the process was starting to affect me…
In the end, Chapter 2 was completed, and the Messaggere exhibition came together beautifully in time for the opening, including the revival of our first installation from the Venice Biennale…
I’d like to extend a special thank you to Parul for her trust and belief in me to represent and complement her remarkable artistic vision through sound. A big thanks also to the staff at Museo Novecento for providing such a wonderful space to live and work, surrounded by such inspiring art and the beauty of Florence.
This collaboration with Parul was born from our shared spiritual journey to the Arctic in 2023. Our two collaborative works stemming from that journey reflect our exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature. In an effort to minimize my carbon footprint in creating this work, I will be purchasing Gold Standard Carbon Offsets through Less.ca to offset the carbon footprint from my flights to and from Florence, ensuring that our work remains mindful of the climate issues we seek to address.
If you’re in Florence between March 8 and June 8, don’t miss the chance to experience this incredible exhibition!
