Programme Notes

I wrote Was My Time Worth It? after I discovered an old notebook which contained angst-filled poetry that my now wife, Lisa, had written as a teenager. The words really jumped out at me as something that would work well in a musical context. This is one of many poems that I used when writing for my two band albums, I Can See You and Strange Machine.

The composition is highly experimental (and I’ll admit a bit strange) to start a “pop” song with a constant loop of the same phrase and then basically take a 360 for the middle section. But the piano part in the middle section is also very loopy so it seems to work.

The 2 female voices are meant to be the same person. They might express themselves in different ways in different parts of the songs but they are still riddled with this yearning for wanting something more.

Lyrics

I sung it over and over

Was my time worth it?
I didn’t know anything about this tune
Except what held it together
‘cuz I couldn’t read between the lines
They always fogged up on me
