Pianist David Jalbert will premiere Frank Horvat’s solo piano piece, Un fleuve sans fin / A River Without End, at the opening gala of the 2024 Concerts aux Îles du Bic chamber music festival in Rimouski, Quebec.
The Concerts aux Îles du Bic Festival is ringing in the start of their 23rd season with the return of the extraordinary David Jalbert for the opening concert. Sergei Prokofiev’s sumptuous Sonata for cello and piano and the rarely heard Suite for Piano Left Hand and Strings by Erich Korngold surround a creation for solo piano by composer Frank Horvat. During Horvat’s trip along the river and at the festival last summer, the composer was inspired by the emblematic St. Lawrence River to write this work. This flagship concert of the festival includes Daphné Bourbonnais and Élise Lavoie on violins with Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy and the festival’s artistic director, James Darling, on cello.
An elegant and warm virtuoso with an eclectic repertoire, David Jalbert has carved out a special place for himself among the pianists of his generation. Named by the CBC as one of the 15 best Canadian pianists of all time, he regularly performs with orchestras and in recitals around the world.
