I’m thinking a lot about love today as it’s Valentine’s Day. Also, I just added a new composition for trumpet and piano appropriately entitled, What Would You Do For Love?, to my online portfolio. So it got me to thinking about my own personal answer to that question. For the sake of simplicity, I will answer the question with my wife, Lisa, in mind, as she is the person I love the very most in this world…
I would definitely donate any organ of mine to her (as did the subject of my new composition).
I would change any aspect of my professional life in order to ensure we would be both be happy.
I would kill if she was being attacked physically and the only way to stop it was murder. That’s big for me to admit as I consider myself quite a radical pacifist.
If she asked me to do something in a particularly high level of intense emotional state and she could not explain to me why she wanted me to do it, I would do it anyway, whether it was legal or not.
If there was a certain medicine she needed and it was only available in the farthest possible point from where we reside, and the only way to get it would be for me to go myself without the assistance of any motorized mode of transportation (either conducted by me or not), I would go by foot, pedal or paddle to get it and bring it back to her, regardless of time and distance. Actually other than the time away from her and the worry of whether or not I would make it back it time to give her the medicine, I could see myself enjoying this one as quite an adventure:)!
I would lie to anyone about anything if she asked me to.
If she asked me to never stop holding her hand, I wouldn’t.
If she said she did not want to sleep in the same bed anymore but still be married, I would just so I continue to be close in other ways.
If she said to never look at her again, I would not.
If she told me to leave, I would.
If she told me to never leave, I would never leave.
I’m sure your answers to this question might vary. But I guess anyone who is truly in love will do much of anything because of their devotion to that love. To all the lover’s out there…
