First there was “Pickle“, then “Red“, now we’re on to “Heat”. I have a varied history with heat. When I was a kid, I was a bit chubby and enjoyed playing sports, so I was hot and sweaty often. Now into my adulthood, everything has reversed. I’m often chilly even in the summer. Lisa and I go for walks in the spring and fall and I wish I could be wearing my winter mitts, coat and toque. But I go cold because I don’t want to be laughed at by fellow walkers on Toronto’s recreational path system.
Meanwhile, Lisa is strange on this topic. When she’s inside at home and everything is temperate, she always feels cold. But when she goes outside and never wears a hat, she’s boiling hot. I’ve never been able to wrap my head around how her body operates;)!
I have a few tracks within my music collection that contain the word “Heat” in the title…
1. Electrik HeaT – The SeekwiLL – k-os
Awesome, groovy beat. Really tight rap. Love the “oh ya’s” from the kids. Nice, unexpected, soulful bridge in the middle.
2. Heat Rises – Dallas Smith
Even though I was a bigger fan of his work with the rock band, Default, Dallas Smith’s solo country output is still pretty catchy, including this song. It’s one of those songs that you don’t want to like because of the schmaltz factor, but you can’t help getting sucked in by the inspirational sentiment and sound.
3. White Light/White Heat – The Velvet Underground
I love this song! It’s almost like it was punk rock before punk rock even existed! The tone of Lou Reed’s voice makes it sound like he’s saying, “f—k you, world”. At the same time, it’s so chipper almost sounding like a 50’s song especially with the usage of the piano. The ending is psychedelia at it’s best.
So there you have it – 3 really opposite songs that do something for me. What songs do you like that contain the word “heat” in the title?
